7/25/2018 0 Comments Artist Spotlight-Robert PageSpanning realism and surrealism, light and fun to moody, Robert's work humorously advocates the idea that anything is possible. ![]() Robert Page grew up in a small town in North Carolina where he learned a great deal about art and how welcoming people can be in the art community. After many experiences and much growth, he decided to approach his work and life anew. Robert now lives and creates in Austin, Texas.
He is a self-taught artist. Dedicated, he has been painting for nearly 20 years. He believes capturing the look or posture of a person is important in his art. Robert’s style is moody, incorporating humor, and surrealistic at times. Along with his figurative work, he has recently worked on a series of animal paintings that are light and fun. As he puts it: "Trying to depict the soul of a creature is challenging and I strive to create paintings that are thought provoking. I have been painting these large animals floating around for a number of years now, I feel like it is freeing. The idea in which anything is possible." You can check out his website here and his instagram here and you can meet him on Saturday, August 4th at Gallery Lucid. 7/25/2018 0 Comments Artist Spotlight - Rosemary Allen![]() Self-trained and influenced by her time with CoSM, Rosemary's works are an invocation of healing and transformation emanating from mediation and energetic processing Rosemary Allen is an Austin artist who was raised in Black Creek, WI and moved to Texas at age 15. She has been drawing and painting since childhood and has always had a passion for expressing her creativity from painting, to acting, to even designing and sewing her own dresses. She is a self taught painter with no formal training other than occasional guidance from her Mother (Patty Allen) who is also a painter. She attended a Visionary Art Intensive with Alex and Allison Grey in 2014 but has honed her skills mostly from her own trial and error. She currently works with watercolours, acrylics, and oil and has been residing in Austin, Texas since 2013. Rosemary's mystical work invokes the power to heal and transform. The subject matter portrays a direct reflection of self-work and emotional processing. She views art as a meditative practice, and believes the energy a painting radiates directly affects a viewer's psyche. Each of Rosemary's spirit animal paintings represent a state of transformation and growth as they assist in the progression of maturity and awareness of the human experience. You can check out her website here, her Facebook Page here, and her instagram here. Or you could come meet her in person this Saturday night at the Surreal Summer Visions show at Gallery Lucid.
7/25/2018 1 Comment "Surreal Summer Visions" Art ShowThis will be a good one! It's Gallery Lucid's final summer art show: "Surreal Summer Visions" Gallery Lucid is hosting its final summer art show: Surreal Summer Visions. Visionary and surrealist artists from various regions of Texas working in oil, acrylics, and semi-precious stone wire-wrapped jewelry will be featured. The show will run from August 4th to August 27th. ![]() Kicking off our Summer Art Class Series, Gallery Lucid is hosting a dynamic, 3-part still life painting class with a twist and an end goal of creating a still life painting which incorporates each artist's choice of visionary, fantasy, psychedelic, or abstract painting. The workshop is being taught by instructor and visionary artist Greg Pettit. The three weekly classes begin Thursday, June 21st, 2018 and will be from 6pm to 10pm each night ($250 for all 3 evenings, together). Some snacks and beverages will be provided and Black Star Coop is directly across the street if the needs become greater. Sign up here! WORKSHOP DETAILS from Greg Pettit:![]() "The workshop will be a Still Life Class for beginners, intermediate, or advanced painting students centered on challenging students to create their own references and then using those to incorporate elements of realism into fantasy, visionary, or even abstract painting. (I'll be teaching from the perspective of using acrylics, but if you are a die hard oil painter that's fine, too.) Observational painting from life is a great way for honing the fundamental skills needed to take one's painting technique to a higher level. This WON'T be painting bowls of fruit or flower vases. "Each student will create their own diorama by constructing a scene out of various objects and materials that will serve as a template to base their paintings off of. I will walk each student through the steps of constructing a reference with lighting, choosing and developing a composition, creating an underpainting, and working in color. "In the first class the student will construct a reference that they can use as their subject, make some thumbnail drawings of possible compositions, and then work on a 3 tone monochromatic underpainting. 11/16/2017 1 Comment Grand OpeningAnnouncing a new visionary art gallery and seeker's center!

In 2003 he moved to Austin, eventually enrolling at the University of Texas College of Fine Arts. He graduated with a BFA in Studio Art in 20008. Greg first began painting in 2006 and by late 2007 and had abandoned most of his prior artistic direction to move forward with a body of work that corresponded to his growing fascination with the terror and beauty of trans-dimensional realities. Straddling the line between abstraction and polished rendering of sensible forms, Greg strives to create imagery that exists within a refracted sense of space and time. His work is characterized by depictions of abstract landscapes, transparent machine-like forms, fantastic creatures, and geometrically defined sentinel-like structures. 11/14/2017 0 Comments Artist Spotlight - Elliot Rogers![]() Elliot Rogers Artist Statement "My paintings combine aspects of surrealism, abstraction, and psychedelic visionary art. Using vibrant colors, mathematical forms, and repetition, I construct hypnotic spaces, which reflect inner meditative visions and explore the connection between the self and the alien other. In the future, I will extend these concepts beyond the canvas, and create more immersive experiences through installation art, virtual reality, video, and music production. "Since 2011 I have been painting surreal mindscapes, mostly with acrylics. After graduating from the Santa Fe University of Art and Design in 2013, with a focus on studio art, I returned to my hometown of Austin, TX to pursue a life of art and music. I began sharing my art with the public in 2014, through live painting and social media. Since then, I have found a thriving community of like-minded artists, with whom I have been collaborating on various projects. When I’m not making art, I usually compose and produce electronic music, or perform live music. I have also explored interactive installation art and projection mapping, including a contribution to Meow Wolf’s “Nimbus” art installation in 2012."
11/14/2017 0 Comments Artist Spotlight - William Allan RossWilliam Allan Ross is an Austin native, born in 1993 with his twin sister, Jade. He began his forays into art and music at the age of 3. While he quickly discovered the potential of using art and music to cope with the chaos of the world, he gradually found that beauty could not only expand the mind but also help understand one's relationship to the world. "It is my belief that the universe expands at the same rate as what we understand to be consciousness. With love I try to expand these boundaries of light and pigment, furthering human understanding at large and hopefully allowing any individual participating to unlock their own personal potential."
11/13/2017 2 Comments Artist Spotlight - Dixon Stovall![]() Dixon Stovall is a Texas-based musician and visual artist exploring the future via subconscious experiences. Heavily influenced by biomech, futuristic architectural patterns, physics, and mathematical fractals, Dixon's art and musical interpretations of this realm serve to challenge the viewer to create his or her own perception of future realities. |
