2/24/2019 0 Comments Doug LaRue - A Solo Show On March 9th, Gallery Lucid will be presenting a solo show by Doug LaRue. This will be something a little different than the artists we typically present. Doug is an Austin-local painter, photographer, and ink artist. He was exposed to a wide range of creative expression at an early age and embraced the organic nature of painting expressed by his mother, and the technical aspects of Photography and Design he drew from his father, an Engineer. LaRue took classes in photography at SMU and interned with several photographers including Dan Coleman, a peer of Ansel Adams in the 60’s. He got a BS in Environmental Design while working as a photojournalist and artist for newspapers and magazines Doug is always creating. He has worked in architecture, been a creative director, a medical illustrator, a photographer, cinematographer, a painter, and he owned and operated an arts Zine in Austin. Join us for his solo show. It will be sponsored by The Brewtorium; lite fare will be provided, and the show will run through April 6th.

Join us for a FREE reception and art show at Gallery Lucid with artist Elliot Rogers for his first solo show - “Mindscapes” as we celebrate his vibrantly colored, mind-bending artwork from 6pm to 9pm on Dec. 15th. Elliot constructs hypnotic spaces and surreal mindscapes which reflect his inner meditative visions and explore the connection between the self and the alien other. Pair this with live music by Fyo͞oɡ (aka William Allan Ross), as well as a preview of Elliot’s upcoming album of electronic music (Mystic Prism). Elliot’s work is the kind you can get lost in while listening to ethereal tones that warp along with the fold of psychedelic patterns on the canvas. The magic is that Elliot composes and performs that very music. He is known for reality-challenging art and chill, flowing music. Elliot’s art combines aspects of surrealism, abstraction, and psychedelic visionary art. Using vibrant colors, mathematical forms, and repetition, he constructs hypnotic spaces, which reflect inner meditative visions and explore the connection between the self and the alien other. Elliot will have large and small original paintings, as well as prints and giclées available for purchase. We usually require that purchased paintings stay up throughout the show, but as this is the gift-giving season, we will be allowing those who desire to take the works home with them that night! Today, I am going to let J.C. Amorrortu's words do most of the speaking: "I was re-incarnated in the city of Lima, Peru on June 23rd into a family of thinkers, professionals and doctors. I remember at a very young age looking through my uncle’s books of medicine and pathology and reading books about the old master painters, hence developing a very especial interest in the human condition and anatomy. I have been doing art for fun since I was a little kid; now I do it as therapy, as a way to further my spiritual evolution in this planet, to have fun and to live. I moved to Austin in December 21st, 2000. I hold a Bachelors degree in Graphic design, which with addition to all my art studies I have done, in both application and history, have helped me to find a balance in pursuing my vision. My work is difficult to put into one category. I refuse to be put into categories and/or styles. Art is my higher purpose and I march to the beat of my own drum. I acknowledge both the light and the dark in this waking dream we call life. Dreams, past experiences, traumas, fears, love, death among others intertwine to create something unique; sometimes funny, sometimes serious or both".  “The Ride” by J.C. J.C. and Juan Villegas will be unveiling their first collaborative work together! These are two of our favorite Austin artists and we are thrilled to see what they have jointly created. The most exciting part? We have no idea what they have in store for us. We know the magic of their individual efforts and can only imagine what will be produced collaboratively. 10/17/2018 0 Comments Artist Spotlight - Juan Villegas Juan Villegas was born in the city of Cali, Colombia, on May 25th 1987 into a family of entrepreneurs, artists, and musicians. With such a rich family environment, he quickly started developing an interest in the arts. After graduating high school in 2005, Juan moved to Austin, Texas to continue his journey in art and graduated from Sam Houston State University with a bachelor of Fine Arts, focusing in drawing and painting. His work consists of dreamlike images occurring where fantasy and reality meet and where time and memory shift. His images invite the viewer to step into a realm of higher consciousness where the subconscious and the physical world dance and fly together. By applying a poetic and often metaphorical language via his painting, Juan seduces viewers into a world of equilibrium where intervals of allegory articulate the streams of our human condition.

He's known for reality-challenging visionary and psychedelic art and his chill and flowing rock, dance, and electronic music, Elliot is an artist that provides an immersive experience for the senses. We are excited to present his visual stylings, once again, in a number of collaborations with Texas-based artists.
You will often hear Elliots aural creations drifting from our gallery. He creates soundscapes that generate an environment that allows for comfort and creative flow. You can check out his Soundcloud station here.
Come meet Elliot in person at the Merging Perspectives show at Gallery Lucid this Saturday, September 8th at Gallery Lucid. Not only can you enjoy beautiful art, you will be supporting Art from the Streets, an Austin-based, volunteer-run organization that provides homeless and struggling artists with materials to create unique and affordable artwork in Austin.
Dixon Stovall will be showing work for the 3rd time in our gallery on September 8th. Dixon is an Austin, TX-based artist whose influences include biomechanical and futuristic architectural patterns, physics, mathematical, and biologic patterns. His interpretation of the subconscious realms challenges viewers to create their own perception of future realities.
Dixon has recently released his most recent album, a compilation of melodic bass music with glitchy dreamscapes and dustings of melodic guitar he has entitled, "Habitual Changes" saying: I’ve spent a good bit of time working on this music, trying to convey the emotions/changes I’ve gone through since the start of this project. Big thanks to Jackson Fred for the mastering, advice, patience, and for being an all around great human. Also thanks to dear friend Elliot Rogers for helping me remix my painting “Terraformulation” for the cover art.

Throughout the Merging Perspectives show, Gallery Lucid is very proud to be donating 10% of all art sales to Art from the Streets, a non-profit organization whose gallery and studio provides a safe and encouraging environment in which the positive spirit of homeless and at-risk people is nurtured through artistic expression, and provides them with a source of pride and income through the sale and display of their work.

Wire wrap jewelry artist, hula hoop and flow artist (as well as international instructor), and all-around crafty woman, Caterina Suttin is a wellspring of creativity and earthy healing avenues.
This year she celebrates her 15th year as a wire wrap artist, producing ever more inspired, intricate work. She loves not only producing from her own intuition, but making custom pieces.
Caterina is an Austin native who travels abundantly, leaving sparks of her art and knowledge in her wake. Catch her while she’s still here in the US...it’s hard to know where the wind might take her next!

Michael writes music for which new words must be invented. Simultaneously tender and apocalyptic, chill and energetic, intensely technical, yet vulnerable tunes that re-imagine folk and psychedelic rock alike, updating "solo artist with guitar" to suit our age of planetary renaissance.
Marrying the singer-songwriter and electronic live producer, Michael's live sets nimbly shift from ecstatic instrumental improvs to deftly executed fretboard-tapping etudes to athletic songcraft of heart-breaking sweetness – pointing past the genre and techniques to bring his audiences into lush and atmospheric, driving and dynamic spaces spanning folk tradition and the avant-garde.
