Submit your works now through August 19th for a chance to be a part of this multi-faceted show! The show is set to run from September 8th to October 14th. Please note: This show runs through both ACL weekends, and will be advertised throughout the the run of the city-wide festival. Gallery Lucid focuses on works that are in the realm of visionary, surreal and psychedelic, and submissions should be representative of these genres.  Wire wrap jewelry artist, hula hoop and flow artist (as well as international instructor), and all-around crafty woman, Caterina Suttin is a wellspring of creativity and earthy healing avenues.  This year she celebrates her 15th year as a wire wrap artist, producing ever more inspired, intricate work. She loves not only producing from her own intuition, but making custom pieces. Caterina is an Austin native who travels abundantly, leaving sparks of her art and knowledge in her wake. Catch her while she’s still here in the US...it’s hard to know where the wind might take her next!   We are excited to welcome Michael Garfield, host of the"Future Fossils" podcast, as our featured musician for the Surreal Summer Visions show at Gallery Lucid on August 4th at 7pm.  Michael writes music for which new words must be invented. Simultaneously tender and apocalyptic, chill and energetic, intensely technical, yet vulnerable tunes that re-imagine folk and psychedelic rock alike, updating "solo artist with guitar" to suit our age of planetary renaissance.  Marrying the singer-songwriter and electronic live producer, Michael's live sets nimbly shift from ecstatic instrumental improvs to deftly executed fretboard-tapping etudes to athletic songcraft of heart-breaking sweetness – pointing past the genre and techniques to bring his audiences into lush and atmospheric, driving and dynamic spaces spanning folk tradition and the avant-garde.
 Through sculpture, painting, film and performance arts, Eris Gentle expresses the intensity and absurdity of human existence using everyday objects and forms to express everything from spiritual awakening to madness. Eris is a multimedia artist who hails from New Orleans, but is now based in Austin. As she appreciates the intensity and dynamic nature of life and uses painting, drawing, clay sculpture, film, and performance to tell her stories and to challenge our views on the nature of why we are here.  "I" by Eris Gentle 12"x9" Acrylic Ink Her work acknowledges the surreal elements and underlying enchantments in everyday objects, landscapes, and human forms. She's fascinated by subjects that normally don't come up in conversation like the phenomenon of dreaming, psychedelic experiences, spiritual awakening, and how we understand this reality. Her creations appear to be an intentional invitation to generate discussions about such intriguing ideas. Axiom is a classically trained artist who has utilized his art in an attempt to reveal the internal elements of subconscious realms for others to experience. He believes variety and the challenge of "what could be" to be important aspects of artistic courage and in that vein, his artist statement is one sentence: "The creative potential within is our greatest alley in the search for our own personal truth." Robert Page grew up in a small town in North Carolina where he learned a great deal about art and how welcoming people can be in the art community. After many experiences and much growth, he decided to approach his work and life anew. Robert now lives and creates in Austin, Texas.
He is a self-taught artist. Dedicated, he has been painting for nearly 20 years. He believes capturing the look or posture of a person is important in his art. Robert’s style is moody, incorporating humor, and surrealistic at times. Along with his figurative work, he has recently worked on a series of animal paintings that are light and fun. As he puts it: "Trying to depict the soul of a creature is challenging and I strive to create paintings that are thought provoking. I have been painting these large animals floating around for a number of years now, I feel like it is freeing. The idea in which anything is possible." You can check out his website here and his instagram here and you can meet him on Saturday, August 4th at Gallery Lucid. 7/25/2018 0 Comments Artist Spotlight - Rosemary Allen Self-trained and influenced by her time with CoSM, Rosemary's works are an invocation of healing and transformation emanating from mediation and energetic processing  "The Messenger" by Rosemary Allen (2018) 24x48 inch acrylic on linen Rosemary Allen is an Austin artist who was raised in Black Creek, WI and moved to Texas at age 15. She has been drawing and painting since childhood and has always had a passion for expressing her creativity from painting, to acting, to even designing and sewing her own dresses. She is a self taught painter with no formal training other than occasional guidance from her Mother (Patty Allen) who is also a painter. She attended a Visionary Art Intensive with Alex and Allison Grey in 2014 but has honed her skills mostly from her own trial and error. She currently works with watercolours, acrylics, and oil and has been residing in Austin, Texas since 2013. Rosemary's mystical work invokes the power to heal and transform. The subject matter portrays a direct reflection of self-work and emotional processing. She views art as a meditative practice, and believes the energy a painting radiates directly affects a viewer's psyche. Each of Rosemary's spirit animal paintings represent a state of transformation and growth as they assist in the progression of maturity and awareness of the human experience. 7/25/2018 2 Comments Artist Profile -Chris Gilmer Christopher Lee Gilmer: Chris is an Austin muralist who has been inspired by datamoshing, quantum mechanics, and the over-saturated imagery of life. He creates artwork that explores the psychological effects of the physical mutations of the figure in time as though various realities merge. With a cubist approach, he explores the different outcomes of candid moments as one singular reality (creating multiple moments in a single moment), often blurring the lines between realism and expressionism; sometimes adding primitive line art to the entangling almost parallel poses. The show will run from August 4th to August 27th. 7/20/2018 2 Comments Artist Spotlight-Melanie FarrisMelanie Farris is a visionary artist based in Austin, TX. She began drawing and painting after a friend introduced her to sacred geometry in 2012. Since then she has been on a journey to create visionary art to brighten the world! She is inspired by the mysteries of the cosmos and geometric patterns found throughout nature, just to name a few. Creating art began as a meditative therapy and blossomed into a thriving passion. Her paintings are meant to illicit calm, happiness, and reflection.   She works primarily in acrylics and creates hypnotic paintings intended to take the viewer to the unknown. Her art represents the familiar and that which is alien. Viewers may be compelled to touch her textured creations, inspired by naturally occurring harmonies and patterns in nature. Her paintings are meant to be meditative, eliciting calm and reflection.
